Over the course of 2019 - 2020, I had the honor to work with Rumble Theatre, an amazing group of artists based in Vancouver to promote a number of their performances. My role included developing key visuals for multiple live shows and web development—developed a new hub website for Rumble, focused on ticket sales and latest information pertaining to the current season. While acting as an information website for now, it is intended to be used later on as the main website with brand new interface and identity. This was an initiative to revolutionize the brand identity of Rumble, refreshed their digital presence and aiming to guide the user flow to the new website.

With the ever expanding of Vancouver food landscape, more people choose to eat out on a daily basis, resulting in the struggle with overcrowded restaurants and long line- ups.
Just Walk In is an app that assists people in looking for restaurants/eateries that can help them avoid long line-up without having to set foot inside. Besides the features usually found in a food app such as map and reservation, Just Walk-In also includes a unique feature that allows people to view availability in real time. Users can scroll through a list of restaurants and see their information along with the number of empty seats they currently have. Then, users can be informed about which restaurants are currently full or have long line-ups and make their decision accordingly.

Mai Dao: A glimpse into Vietnamese culture is a cultural performance as part of the Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Society (SEACHS)’s efforts to bring the Vietnamese values and traditions to the Vancouver community at the end of October 2018.
I was tasked with designing the key visuals for this highly celebrated event. Overall, the theme needs to strongly represent some aspects of the Vietnamese traditions — through arts, musics and unity. As a result, we were heavily influenced by the Vietnamese Ao Dai’s form and the traditional instrument Dan Bau, guiding the underlying intention throughout the show.

Design for Social Innovation & Sustainability (DESIS) is a network of academics, researchers and students focusing on social innovation at many levels. They have large and small scale teams around the world, collaborating with other partners and individuals to advocate and resolve social problems.
My role in this particular space was to provide visual artworks for a series of initiatives to explore experimental methodologies underlying the Vancouver society landscape for the DESIS Lab in Vancouver. This was a unique opportunity to refresh and created a cohesive template pertaining to future showcases of the Lab.

I worked with teams of designers, production, marketers and speakers as part of the design team to brainstorm and developed the concept and visuals for Ted X ECUAD 2018 theme “Equilibrium”, following the move to the new campus.
Some of the key designs such as the Ted Talk red circle and connecting lines represent harmony, empowerment and transformation to guide the underlying intention and values of the event.
The event has garnered a large number of audience, leveraged wide-spread popularity among the Vancouver community and became successful in collaboration with Emily Carr University.

Owing to the long history of being colonized, the Vietnamese language has been exposed to the cultural conception of other nations. It has been separated by great gulfs in time, geography, different social and political systems, and language divides. Within Vietnam’s typographic landscape, such influences have evidently been carved into both the visual and identity of every letter created. Informed by this context, this research applies the current Vietnamese written language as a rudiment to develop a platform for conversations and insights of Vietnamese visual culture.
This practice-based research presents the process of developing "Tre Việt" ("Vietnamese bamboo"), a culture-specific typeface that draws on characteristics from Vietnamese language and culture. At the core of this research lies the intersection between communication design and Vietnamese traditional visual elements. By reflecting on the intrinsic nature of the letterforms and informed by the Vietnamese cultural symbol, the research seeks to enhance the beauty of the country’s culture.
User interviews and literature reviews have been extensively used to collect data points to establish the basis for synthesis process. Later use of digital font maker has been used to create prototypes and testing.
